Blizzard used BlizzCon 2026 to reveal World of Warcraft Forever
Blizzard used BlizzCon 2026 to reveal World of Warcraft: Forever, a major new project that returns to the foundations of original World of Warcraft while taking Azeroth in a different direction.
Unlike WoW Classic, which was originally built around recreating earlier versions of the MMO, Forever begins with the level 1–60 structure of original Azeroth and asks a different question: what would this version of World of Warcraft look like if Blizzard had continued expanding it?
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, and access will be included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.
The key idea behind Forever is permanence.
Blizzard describes the game as a new home alongside Modern and Classic WoW rather than another temporary seasonal experiment. Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor remain at the center of the experience, but familiar locations are being expanded with new stories, quests, dungeons and unexplored regions.
The game retains a level 60 cap, while character development continues through horizontal progression instead of repeatedly raising the maximum level.
This allows Blizzard to preserve one of Classic WoW's defining qualities: the world itself remains relevant rather than becoming something players rush through on the way to a constantly moving endgame.
New Content Inside a Familiar Azeroth
Forever will not simply send players through the same quests they completed in Vanilla or WoW Classic.
Blizzard is adding new and expanded zones alongside thousands of quests and updated class systems. The newly playable Skyborne elves also introduce another storyline to the original Azeroth framework.
Other important changes include revamped classes and specializations, profession updates, a Camping system and the new account-wide Legacy system.
The result is closer to the long-discussed idea of “Classic Plus”: recognizable Classic foundations combined with content that never existed in the original game.
The Legacy System Changes Long-Term Progression
One of Forever's most interesting additions is the Legacy System, an account-wide progression system designed to reward players for experiencing more of Azeroth.
Legacy progression can be earned through activities such as leveling characters, developing tradeskills and exploring the world.
That matters because Forever is trying to make the leveling journey itself valuable. Instead of treating alternate characters purely as a repeated grind, Blizzard can reward players for experiencing different classes, professions and areas of the world.
It reinforces the broader design philosophy behind Forever: reaching level 60 is important, but it should not make the rest of Azeroth irrelevant.
Gold Will Remain Important in a Classic Style Economy
A slower progression model also makes the economy more meaningful.
In Classic-style World of Warcraft, Gold influences everything from profession development and equipment to consumables, trading and transportation. Forever's renewed emphasis on professions and long-term character development should keep resource management relevant throughout the leveling process.
Players preparing for Classic WoW content therefore often pay close attention to their Gold reserves. Those comparing different options may also come across wowtt.com, which offers Cheap WOW Classic Gold. Players considering third-party currency services should still check Blizzard's current policies and understand the potential account risks before purchasing.
Blizzard Is Building Forever for the Long Term
Perhaps the most important detail from the announcement is Blizzard's commitment to continuing development after launch.
New raids are scheduled to begin unlocking on December 9, while future updates are planned to introduce additional raids, dungeons, PvP content, quests, world activities and Hardcore support.
That makes the name “Forever” particularly meaningful.
Blizzard is not simply preserving a snapshot of World of Warcraft from 2004. The company is taking the structure and design philosophy of that era and turning it into a foundation for future development.
If that approach succeeds, World of Warcraft: Forever could finally provide something Classic players have discussed for years: an Azeroth that feels rooted in the original game but is no longer required to follow the same history.
